Different Types of Bearded Dragon Morphs

In the wild, there are eight different types of bearded dragon species. Only four of the eight species are maintained as pets, with the Pogona vitticeps being the most popular. Although all Bearded Dragons are native to Australia, they differ in appearance. Tan, yellow, olive green and red are the most prevalent colours.

Bearded dragon morphs are bred together by herpetologists to produce a variety of patterns and hues. There are now more than 20 different morphs.

Bearded Dragons Come in a Variety of Shapes and Sizes. Let us know more about it.

Pogona is a family of bearded dragons that includes eight different species (i.e. genus). Each of the eight is different in terms of size, colour, and personality:

  • Pogona barbata
  • Pogona henrylawsoni
  • Pogona microlepidota
  • Pogona minor minor
  • Pogona minor minima
  • Pogona minor mitchelli
  • Pogona Nullarbor
  • Pogona vitticeps

Because each species evolved in a unique environment, it has its own set of behaviours. The Pogona barbata is an excellent example. They are the only species found in eastern Australia, and because of the thickly forested environments, they are significantly better climbers. Pogona vitticeps is the most frequent pet species. Because of its docile and tranquil demeanour, this species outperforms other bearded dragon types.

Bearded dragons come from all around Australia. However, they come from different sections of the country. Their chosen habitat is influenced by where they live on the island.

Bearded Dragon Morphs have been bred to have a specific colour, look, pattern, or a combination of all three. In many reptiles, morph breeding is common. The colour, design, and scalation of a Bearded Dragon are caused by a collection of genes interacting together rather than by a single gene.

Genes are segments of an organism's DNA that provide development instructions. The interaction of genes creates the qualities. The size, colour, and temperament of a bearded dragon morph are among these characteristics. Many desirable qualities are recessive, making them difficult to breed.

To develop distinct colourations or patterns, some morphs must be bred over numerous generations. There are three types of morph.

  • Scalation
  • Pattern
  • Colour

Lastly

In the Pogona family, there are eight different types of dragons. Due to its calm and docile temperament, the Pogona vitticeps is one of the most popular pet reptiles.

For more than two decades, bearded dragon variants have been selectively bred, with new colours, patterns, and scalation occurring each year. In captivity, there are currently over 20 distinct morphs.

Unfortunately, some morphs (such as Albino and Silkies) have many health problems, so do your study before buying one of the rarer types.
